Wrong Miss Universe Crowned After Host Reads Wrong Name

Dec 24, 2015 - by Katrina P.

In a cringe worth mix-up, the wrong Miss Universe was crowned by host Steve Harvey during the competition finale.

Gambling news is flooded with videos of the awkward beauty pageant finale, in which the wrong Miss Universe was crowned for three minutes before Harvey realized his mistake and revealed the rightful winner.

miss universe error publicity stunt

Or…?

Harvey named Miss Colombia, Ariadna Gutierrez, as the winner after he misread the results card. When he noticed he’d said the wrong name, he quickly corrected himself, saying that Miss Philippines, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, was the true Miss Universe 2015.

What happened if you bet on the wrong Miss Universe?

Those who bet on Miss Universe are no doubt furious over Harvey’s monumental mistake. At least the Miss Colombia bettors are, as they won’t be receiving a payout even if their choice was named. However, the Miss Universe blunder is good news for people who put money on Miss Philippines.

Like most competitions, many online gambling sites offer betting lines for Miss Universe, with one of the most popular being Paddy Power. After Harvey’s embarrassing misreading, we’re betting that ‘announcing the wrong name’ will be an option on the site for Miss Universe 2016!

Dec 23, 2015 - by Bence
new coach for bayern munich

Changing the man in charge.

The latest transfer rumours in connection with Bayern Munich’s future changes expect a new striker for the Bavarian side.

It has been officially announced at online gambling news that Pep Guardiola will leave FC Bayern Munich at the end of this season and Carlo Ancelotti will take over his place. This piece of information has given source to many of the latest transfer rumours, such as Lewandowski might be leaving FC Bayern. However, the team is said to already have found his replacement. Let’s check out the latest football transfer news now!

Goal: OFFICIAL: Ancelotti to replace Guardiola at Bayern

Goal reported that Carlo Ancelotti has been officially named as the replacement for Pep Guardiola, with whom Bayern Munich has dominated German football ever since his arrival in 2013. He won several cups including 2 Bundesliga titles, one German Cup, the UEFA Super Cup and the Fifa Club World Cup trophy.

However, his contract with the Bavarian side is coming to an end as soon as this season finishes. Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Bayern Munich’s Chief Executive Officer, has announced that Guardiola’s contract will not be renewed and will be replaced by the Italian manager, starting from next season.

Rummenigge did not fail to praise both managers as his team can proud to be working together with the best managers in the world. He highlighted the successful years that Guardiola has been achieving in Bayern, and have praised the amazing experience that Ancelotti has as a manager.

Daily Mail: Carlo Ancelotti ‘ready to stand in the way of Real Madrid’s pursuit of Bayern Munich ace Robert Lewandowski

Meanwhile, Daily Mail reports that Carlo Ancelotti has already started planning his new project at the helm of Bayern Munich. According to gambling news in Germany, the Italian wants to give key responsibilities to Robert Lewandowski, Bayern Munich’s 27-year-old striker.

The Polish forward however, has been linked to Real Madrid on several occasions ever since the season has started. Cristiano Ronaldo is going to leave Real Madrid at the end of the season according to the latest transfer rumours, and Florentino Pérez wants to replace him with a top class striker. His choice would be Robert Lewandowski.

However, Ancelotti has signed for Bayern Munich based on several conditions. One of those was that Bayern Munich will be able keep the world-class striker in the team. Ancelotti believes Lewandowski and Douglas Costa are the main people in the attacking third of his new Bayern Munich.

Nevertheless, the Italian manager can worry about his previous team crossing his plans. Lewandowski’s agent, Cezary Kucharski, has been spotted at the Bernabéu stadium at the Real Madrid vs Getafe game and latest transfer rumours indicate he was negotiating about the possible move of his customer. Lewandowski told AS that he would prefer not commenting the rumours in connection with his future.

AS: El Bayern ya tiene alternativa a Lewandowski: Gonzalo Higuaín

On the other hand, AS reported that Carlo Ancelotti is not a man without a plan. Even if Real Madrid would manage to capture his number 9, he would not have to be overly dramatic since he is said to already have found the perfect replacement for the Polish striker.
trasfer lewandowski 2015
Ancelotti is said to be interested in Napoli’s striker, Gonzalo Higuaín, who has been playing in superb form so far this season. Should Los Blancos purchase Lewandowski, Bayern would try to buy the former-Galactico, who has scored 16 goals in 17 games in this season at the Italian team.

According to the latest gambling news, Gonzalo Higuaín seems very similar to Robert Lewandowski in regards of style and abilities. The Argentine’s contract expires in 2018, however there is a buy-out clause in his contract: whoever wants to purchase him, the team will have to pay EUR 94 million.

The Week in Pictures: December 08 – December 15, 2015

Dec 15, 2015 - by Nich Moore

Weekly news in pictures

There was no shortage of important news stories last week so lets take the time to take another look at some of the biggest from the last seven days

The 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference, COP21, came to a climax last week with a pact reached by the 200 attending nations to come into effect in 2020 that seeks to limit global warming to less than 2 degrees before the end of the century. Despite not being as legally binding as some would have wished the first agreement of its sort in history has been greeted with enthusiasm by many world leaders including Barack Obama who called it “the best chance to save the one planet we have.”

Donald Trump, still leading the polls in the race to be the Republican nomination in the US Presidential race in 2016, earned the ire of all quarters last week by calling for a ban on all entrance to the United States for Muslims. Instantly condemned by both his opponents and fellow Republicans alike Hillary Clinton called it “reprehensible, prejudiced and divisive” whilst rival for the nomination Jeb Bush called Mr. Trump’s position “unhinged”.

Saudi Arabia finally allowed women to vote in elections last week holding the first to be open to both female voters and candidates. Despite being unable to meet male voters during their campaigns, the segregation of polling stations and numerous bureaucratic obstacles 900 women stood for election although few are expected to gain office with only 10% of votes cast by women. However Salma bint Hizab al-Oteibi was elected in Madrakah to the Mecca municipal council.

In sport Conor McGregor took just 13 seconds to knock out opponent Jose Aldo to take the featherweight title in Las Vegas at UFC 194. “Precision beats power, timing beats speed.” Said McGregor after the bout that ending Aldo’s 18 fight unbeaten run, will Conor be able to match it? You’ll have to read our daily news pages to find out, but in the meantime lets take a moment to glance back over some of the big news stories we covered over the last seven days.

Meanwhile police are investigating the source of 100,000 Euro that was discovered floating down the Danube in Vienna last week. A boy found the money and retrieved the mainly 100 and 500 Euro denominations from the water, and with Austrian law allowing him to keep 10% immediately and claim the full amount after a year if the rightful owner does not come forward he’s a lucky chap. Whilst the money’s origin is not yet known police have ruled out money laundering.

Euro 2016 Draw Brings England v Wales

Dec 14, 2015 - by Dani
England v Wales will be huge

England v Wales will be one of the highlights of Euro 2016 (photo: myfootballfacts.com)

The draw for the Euro 2016 group stages was made on Saturday and the England v Wales will be arguably the spiciest matchup in the tournament.

England were drawn in the same group as rookies Wales, plus Russia and Slovakia, so there will be an all-British encounter in the group stages, when the England v Wales game will be played. Both national team coaches, Roy Hodgson and Chris Coleman were pleased with the draw.

Since Russia have a history of struggling in big tournaments and Slovakia have yet to reach the level of the European elite, the Britons have all the chances to advance to the next stages. Especially since, as many experts of gambling facts might know, in a 24-team format the four best third placed teams also advance besides the six top twos.

Source: UEFA EURO 2016 finals draw made in Paris

France will kick off the tournament against Romania in the interesting group A, where Euro newcomers Albania and Switzerland are the other two teams. The England v Wales will be played in group B, while group C will stage another Germany v Poland game after the qualifiers. Poland will also meet Ukraine, co-hosts of the Euro 2012 tournament, as well as Euro newbies, Northern Ireland.

Arguably the hottest section for sports scores news will be group D, where title-holders Spain, the Czech Republic, Turkey and Croatia were drawn. Group E will be another attraction with Belgium, Italy, Ireland and Sweden. Maybe the weakest of the groups is group F, where Portugal, Euro rookies Iceland and old acquaintances Austria and Hungary were drawn.

The Euro 2016 draw:

Group A: France (hosts), Romania, Albania, Switzerland

Group B: England, Russia, Wales, Slovakia

Group C: Germany, Ukraine, Poland, Northern Ireland

Group D: Spain (holders), Czech Republic, Turkey, Croatia

Group E: Belgium, Italy, Republic of Ireland, Sweden

Group F: Portugal, Iceland, Austria, Hungary

After the round-robins, teams in the first two places and the four best third-placed teams qualify to the knockout stages of the tournament.

Arsenal v Barcelona in UCL Last 16

Dec 14, 2015 - by Dani
Arsenal v Barcelona will be the top match

Only three months until Champions League football returns

The first round of the 2015-16 Champions League knockout was drawn in Nyon, Switzerland and the hottest fixture will be the Arsenal v Barcelona clash.

Besides Arsenal v Barcelona, the rematch of the 2006 Champions League final, Juventus vs Bayern Munich will be the other top match in the round of 16. There is a list of interesting fixtures though, and the likes of Benfica v Zenit and Gent v Wolfsburg will guarantee that some lesser ranked sides will also be present amongst Europe’s eight best teams.

Here is the full list of the schedule:

16 February & 9 March
Paris Saint-Germain (FRA) v Chelsea (ENG)
Benfica (POR) v Zenit (RUS)
17 February & 8 March
Gent (BEL) v Wolfsburg (GER)
Roma (ITA) v Real Madrid (ESP)
23 February & 16 March
Arsenal (ENG) v Barcelona (ESP)
Juventus (ITA) v Bayern München (GER)
24 February & 15 March
PSV Eindhoven (NED) v Atlético Madrid (ESP)
Dynamo Kyiv (UKR) v Manchester City (ENG)

Previous winners in Italic.

Zenit and Dynamo were separate from each other because of the tensions between Russia and Ukraine.

Apart from Gent v Wolfsburg, all of these matchups happened before in the Champions League, gambling news.

Uefa.com: This is not the first Arsenal v Barcelona

There were additional Arsenal v Barcelona fixtures since the 2006 final, and La Blaugrana managed to eliminate the Gunners both in 2010 and 2011. This will be the third PSG v Chelsea meeting in consecutive seasons with the Blues succeeding in 2013 and Le Parisiens winning last year.

Bayern beat Juve twice in 2013, the year Die Roten won the competition eventually. As Roma and Real Madrid are regular playing partners. They have met eight times since 2001 and the Wolves were able to eliminate Los Blancos in the round of 16 in 2008.

Atlético Madrid beat PSV Eindhoven twice in the group stage in 2008. Benfica advanced from the round of 16 in 2012 against Zenit, however the Saint Petersburg-based side handed two losses to the Eagles in last year’s group stage. Dynamo eliminated Manchester City in 2011 at the same stage, as experts of gambling facts might remember.

Unfortunately the hottest games, the Arsenal v Barcelona and the Juventus v Bayern Munich clashes will be played simultaneously. However, there will be some great clashes in this round, and the further stages will expectedly provide some additional unforgettable moments.

Uefa.com: UEFA Europa League round of 32 draw

There was also a draw in the Europa league, where the fixtures in the round of 32 were determined. The draw included the top two teams from every group in the Europa League group stages, as well as the third-placed teams from the Champions League group phase.

The full list of matches:

Valencia (ESP) v Rapid Wien (AUT)
Fiorentina (ITA) v Tottenham Hotspur (ENG)
Borussia Dortmund (GER) v Porto (POR)
Fenerbahçe (TUR) v Lokomotiv Moskva (RUS)
Anderlecht (BEL) v Olympiacos (GRE)
Midtjylland (DEN) v Manchester United (ENG)
Augsburg (GER) v Liverpool (ENG)
Sparta Praha (CZE) v Krasnodar (RUS)
Galatasaray (TUR) v Lazio (ITA)
Sion (SUI) v Braga (POR)
Shakhtar Donetsk (UKR) v Schalke (GER)
Marseille (FRA) v Athletic Club (ESP)
Sevilla (ESP, holders) v Molde (NOR)
Sporting CP (POR) v Bayer Leverkusen (GER)
Villarreal (ESP) v Napoli (ITA)
St-Étienne (FRA) v Basel (SUI)

Previous winners in Italic.

Russian and Ukrainian clubs were separated naturally.

Fiorentina v Tottenham and Borussia Dortmund v Porto will be the most interesting outings, however, Shakhtar Donetsk v Schalke or Galatasaray v Lazio would have been also a nice fit in the Champions League sports scores news a few years ago.

Sparta Praha (CZE) v Krasnodar (RUS)
Galatasaray (TUR) v Lazio (ITA)
Sion (SUI) v Braga (POR)
Shakhtar Donetsk (UKR) v Schalke (GER)
Marseille (FRA) v Athletic Club (ESP)
Sevilla (ESP, holders) v Molde (NOR)
Sporting CP (POR) v Bayer Leverkusen (GER)
Villarreal (ESP) v Napoli (ITA)
St-Étienne (FRA) v Basel (SUI)

Previous winners in Italic.

Russian and Ukrainian clubs were separated naturally.

Fiorentina v Tottenham and Borussia Dortmund v Porto will be the most interesting outings, however, Shakhtar Donetsk v Schalke or Galatasaray v Lazio would have been also a nice fit in the Champions League sports scores news a few years ago.

Honduras Footballer Peralta Was Killed in Shooting

Dec 11, 2015 - by Dani
Arnold Peralta was killed in Honduras

Peralta played for the Rangers from 2013-2015

Former Glasgow Rangers defensive midfielder and Honduras international Arnold Peralta was killed while on holiday.

BBC reported that Peralta was killed in his hometown, La Ceiba, on the North coast of Honduras. He was shot in the car park of a shopping center.

The cause of the shooting is unknown yet. However robbery was ruled out by the police, since nothing was taken. Honduras has the highest murder rates in the world. Gang violence is a major problem for the Latin-American country.

BBC: Arnold Peralta: Honduras footballer shot dead

Peralta, who was 26, played for the capital club Olimpia, since he ended his one year and a half long spell at Scottish side Rangers, where he featured in 21 league games, scoring once.

A “tragic death that the national sport mourns”, Osman Madrid, director of  FENAFUTH, the Honduran national football federation, commented the news about Peralta was killed.

Experts of gambling facts might know that he was due to represent his country at the 2014 FIFA World Cup, however he missed the tournament in Brazil because of injury. He played for Honduras at the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

Peralta was about to feature in the Honduras vs Cuba international game next Wednesday.

Fangio DNA Test Confirms Espinosa Being Son

Dec 10, 2015 - by Dani
Fangio DNA test confirms Espinosa's claim

Juan Manuel Fangio was arguably the best racing driver in history

Juan Manuel Fangio DNA test confirmed that Oscar Espinosa is the son of the Argentine Formula 1 legend.

A Fangio DNA test was ordered by a court in Argentina earlier this year in order to confirm the paternity claim of the 77-year-old Oscar Espinosa. In August, Fangio was exhumed in Balcarce, Argentina, for DNA samples to be taken and the results of the Fangio DNA test just came back confirming that Espinosa was right when stated that the legendary driver was his father.

Motorsport.com: DNA test confirms Espinosa as Fangio’s son

The five-time Formula One world champion was 1911 and died 1995 in Balcarce, Buenos Aires province. Fangio was never married and he was thought to be childless. However, two paternity cases emerged in the last ten years in Argentina, leading eventually to get the body of Fangio exhumed. Ruben Vazquez and Oscar Espinosa both claim to be the children of the legendary driver.

Fangio DNA tests confirmed Espinosa's paternity claim

One of the two paternity claims has been confirmed already (Photo: minutobalcarce.com.ar)

Espinosa’s mother had a long relationship with fangio and Oscar also became a racing driver himself and had a close relationship with the five-time world champion. He is recognized as Oscar ‘Cacho’ Fangio in the world of motorsports, and now the usage of the name ‘Fangio’ is backed by the results of the Fangio DNA test, confirming that Espinosa is the son of the late Juan Manuel Fangio.

The 73-year-old Ruben Vazquez stated that his late mother, Catalina Basili revealed him in 2005 that he had a relationship with Fangio, and that the F1 great was his father. His case is expected to be resolved in the coming days, according to sports scores news.

Fangio is arguably the best racing driver in history. He won five Formula One world championship titles in the 1950s, as many experts of gambling facts might know. He was only one-time champion, when he had a near fatal accident in Monza in 1952, breaking his neck as he was thrown out from his car. However, he made a comeback at 42, and went on to win four more titles.

Holly Holm Rematch is on, Says Ronda Rousey

Dec 09, 2015 - by Roxana B.
ronda rousey come back

Sports Illustrated photo -before the KO performed by Holm

For the first time since the brutal knockout loss that took away her UFC title, Ronda Rousey has spoken out about her road to recovery and her desire for Holly Holm rematch.

In US gambling news, Rousey has granted her first post-defeat interview to ESPN The Magazine. Finally breaking her silence about the fight, she said that she felt “really f—king sad” following her November 15 loss in Melbourne. She also opened up about the injuries she’d sustained, saying that because of the split lip and loose teeth “It might be three to six months before I can eat an apple, let alone take an impact.”

The former UFC champion went into detail about what let to her demise, saying that when Holm punched her 30 seconds into the fight, it threw her off for the rest of the match. She wasn’t thinking clearly and felt shaky, and for the first time ever spit blood onto the floor instead of the bucket. Says Rousey: “I just feel so embarrassed. How I fought after that is such an embarrassing representation of myself. I wasn’t even f—king there.”

In spite of her upsetting performance and loss in Australia, Rousey said that the knockout will not be the end her career. She vows to have a Holly Holm rematch, saying: “I need to come back. I need to beat this chick. Who knows if I’m going to pop my teeth or break my jaw or rip my lip open again. I have to f—king do it. It doesn’t matter. I have to do it.”

The Week in Pictures: December 01 – December 07, 2015

Dec 09, 2015 - by Roxana B.

Weekly news in pictures

With no shortage of headline grabbing stories over the last seven days perhaps we should take a moment to review some of the most important from last week

Fourteen people were shot dead, and another 21 injured, in the latest mass shooting in the US that occurred last week at a Christmas party organized for the employees of the San Bernardino Public Health Department. Syed Rizwan Farook, who had left the party after a dispute, and his wife Tashfeen Malik opened fire with a selection of automatic weapons, and were shot dead after a police pursuit later in the day. The FBI are investigating it as an act of terrorism after explosives were found at the home the couple, in their twenties, shared with their six month old child.

COP21, the 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference, was held in Le Bourget, Paris, last week with a vast array of world leaders making speeches encouraging delegates to arrive at, for the first time, a “binding and universal” agreement on the planet’s response to this global crisis. Despite public pressure however, many observers feel the differences in vested interests between developed and developing nations may prevent anything but a very watered down compromise treaty being signed.

British Prime Minister David Cameron led the call for an expansion of UK airstrikes against so-called Islamic State last week with parliament debating and then voting on including targets within the territory of Syria. Opposed by Jeremy Corben, leader of the Labour party the government carried the vote with 66 opposition MPs voting with them, including Labour foreign affairs spokesman Hillary Benn who made a well-received impassioned plea for continued military action against the extremists.

In sport Real Madrid, who have been busy readying their appeal against expulsion from the Copa del Rey for fielding ineligible players during their 3-1 win over Cadiz, answered critics with four first half goals against Getafe to remain in touch with La Liga leaders Barcelona. Will they catch up and overtake their big rivals? You’ll have to read our daily news pages to find out but in the meantime here’s a look back at some of the major stories we covered from around the world over the last seven days.

Meanwhile the wreck of the San Jose, a Spanish galleon sunk in 1708 by the British, often described as the “holy grail” of sunken vessels was discovered off the port city of Cartagena. The galleon was carrying a fortune in gold, silver, gems and jewelry, today worth some $1 billion, that the Spanish King was to use as finance for his war of succession. Juan Manuel Santos, the Colombian President said the find “constitutes one of the greatest discoveries of submerged patrimony in the history of mankind.” He also announced the construction of a museum in Cartagena to house some of the wreck’s treasures.

Tyson Fury after beating Klitschko

Less than two weeks after the remarkable victory against Wladimir Klitschko, the Tyson Fury stripped of title news broke.

The 27-year-old British fighter  won the IBF heavyweight champion belt amongst four other titles last month. He defeated Klitschko on points with a unanimous decision in Düsseldorf. “It’s true he’s been stripped of his IBF belt,” said IBF championships chairman Lindsey Tucker. “Our challenger was Vyacheslav Glazkov, but instead Fury’s gone and signed a rematch clause with Wladimir Klitschko.”

Thus Fury will retain ‘only’ the WBA and WBO heavyweight world championship titles as well as the Ring Magazine belt. He is undefeated in 25 professional fights and has to defend his titles against Klitshcko because of the Ukrainian announced that he will activate the rematch clause that was included in the contract before their previous match.
